The computer won't start.

Does the power light come on?

If not, then Make sure both ends of the power cord are
plugged in all the way. If you use a power strip or
surge protector, make sure it is plugged all the way and
the switch is on.

If the power light does come on but the computer does
not start, make sure the monitor is plugged in all the
way and is turned on. Try to power the computer off,
wait a half hour and try again, if that works, you may
have a bad fan and an overheated computer.

When you insert a CD, it takes
over your computer.

Some CD's have "auto run" feature.

Hold down the shift key while you insert the CD. This
will disable the "auto run" feature.

The computer freezes.

Try pressing Control + Alt + Delete.

Then select shutdown or restart.

Computer runs too slow.
|

Close all the programs that you are not using.

If it is still too slow, close all programs and
restart.

Avoid opening programs that you do not need at the
time. Try to get in the habit of closing programs that
you are not using

The printer doesn't work.

Close any other programs that you do not need open,
try again.

Make sure both ends of the printer cable are plugged
in all the way.

Try loading the latest printer driver from the printer
manufacturer's web site.

The mouse cursor does not appear
on the screen.

Press control + escape to open the start menu, and use
the arrow keys to select shutdown.

Check that the mouse is plugged in all the way.

Restart the computer.

I want to see the information on the screen when the
computer first starts, but it disappears before the screen
is ready to display the information.

Press the "Pause/Break" key (usually a few
keys to the right of the F12 key) when the screen is
still waiting to start displaying information. The boot
process will pause until you press the enter/return key.
