Problem Fixes
Problems picking up e-mail.
First, test your ability to connect to the internet, see if you
can get to your web site using a web browser.
If you can not reach your site with a web browser, see I
can't visit my web site.
If you can get to your web site with a web browser, but can not
pick up e-mail, then try these things.
If you have an e-mail account here, picking up e-mail from the e-mail server here
requires:
POP3 Mail server name
User ID
Password
POP3 Mail server name, should be mail.YourDomainName.com
User ID, is the part of your e-mail name that comes before your domain name. If your e-mail address is someone@YourDomainName.com, then the
e-mail user ID is "someone". Note that this is not the same as
your dialup ID. The dial user ID and e-mail user ID are two separate
things.
The password should not be visible anywhere. You need to remember it, write it down or have your mail program remember it. If you write it down, try to store it
in a safe place, away from your computer. If you forget your password and do not have it written down, give us a call and we can give you the password or issue a new one.
If you know these three items, you should be able to pick up your mail from anywhere that will let you set up a mail reader.
If you are setting up a mail reader for the first time, there may
be more settings that you need to check, see Setting
Up Your E-mail Reader.
If you need someone to send you email so you can test your setup,
you can send email to yourself. If your email sending program is
working, just send to yourself, and wait a few minutes.
Note: sending mail is different than receiving mail, most mail server computers will not allow you to send mail from just anywhere. Because spammers
abuse other peoples mail servers, most providers require that you send mail from one specific Internet connection. Picking up your e-mail can usually be done form
anywhere, as long as you know the user ID and password.
