Reverse Trace Route
Testing with a Reverse TraceRoute
Sometimes you can test your connection to a remote computer, but that is not enough information. You may want to know if they can get to you. There is a facility called reverse TraceRoute that can do this for you.
Reverse TraceRoute servers will do a trace to your computer (or sometimes to any computer that you specify), and send the results to you.
One of the most valuable uses for reverse TraceRoute comes from
the sites that allow you to specify what destination you want it
to use. If you are having trouble getting to a particular
destination, you can ask a reverse TraceRoute computer to trace
the route to the destination. You can try this from various places
in the country, and get an picture of which parts of the country
can reach the destination and which parts of the country can not
reach the destination.
If you are the only one that can not reach the destination, the
problem is probably your provider. If no one can reach the
destination, then the problem is more likely at the destination.
